Millson 9th in Superbike at Shubenacadie
HAMILTON, ON. - August 17, 2009 – RMP Racing’s
Ross Millson finally broke into the top ten for the first time
this season with a 9th place finish at the 6th Round of the
Parts Canada Superbike Championship at Atlantic Motorsport Park
Shubenacadie, N.S.
Thursday evening, Millson and RMP Racing’s Steven Nickerson
enjoyed some pre-race festivities at the annual Pro Cycle “Meet
the Riders” autograph session in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This
event drew a large crowed throughout the evening which also
featured “Fast Bikes” Show-n-Shine, a horsepower shootout, BBQ,
and numerous door prizes.
On Friday the team was greeted with near perfect weather for
Round 6 at Atlantic Motorsports Park’s 2.56KM track. Without the
customary promoter practice or benefit of competing in the
previous weekend’s regional race, Pro Superbike racer Ross
Millson had just two short practice sessions to get his #39
Inside Motorcycles / Motovan / Tri-City Cycle supported Suzuki
GSX-R1000 up to speed.
"The morning session was shortened so that made things even
harder” said Millson
Initially qualifying went very well for Millson putting in lap
times that kept him just inside the top ten. As the session drew
to a close he would find himself just outside the top ten. With
a few minutes remaining Millson made additional attempts to
secure a top ten spot but was unable to better his time. He
finished the session in 12th place, just missing out on
qualifying for the Pirelli SuperPole by 7/10th of a second.
On Friday Millson also sat down to film an interview to discuss
the sport, the team and his season so far. TSN will air this
segment as part of the Round 6 coverage on Tuesday, September
15.
Starting from 12th on the grid in Sundays feature race Millson
needed a good start. Millson launched off the line and quickly
locked himself into 10th place.
Millson stayed on the heels of Martin Grande and Erick
Beausejour throughout the grueling 22 lap race but just couldn't
close the gap further. Millson would eventually cross the finish
line in 9th.
“The bike was working the best it had all weekend thanks to John
Sharrard of Accelerated Technologies” said Millson. “Shubie is a
tough place to race and after a very eventful weekend I was
happy to see the checkered flag.”
Up next for Millson is Round 7 of the Parts Canada Superbike
Chamionship at Shannonville Motorsport Park, Shannonville, ON -
September 3 – 6.
